Hi Greg, Change is so difficult because change changes everything and when change changes things changes takes place and that changes everything...just because the diaper says up to 15 pounds doesn't mean that you shouldn't change it sooner...further the only things that don't change are dead things...I believe that church change is the most difficult...we're cutting edge in almost every phase of life except in the life of the church and then we shift into trailing-edge thinking...phrases such as "We Have Always Done It This Way" and "We Have Never Done It Like That" are phrases and thinking that are paralyzing the church today...Indeed, change for God's Sake, change for Jesus' Sake, change for the sake of your soul...why is change so difficult, because it requires of us to do something, to not change requires nothing of us...good question...have a God-changing Day...
I agree to the major disliking of the phrase "But we've always done it that way."
Change is difficult because the way it's been done is easy. It's comfortable. It seems to fit. And even if it doesn't, the alternative is more trouble than having to change. And ain't life about making things more simple?
Jesus never said being a Christian would be simple or easy. Yet we try to stay in our comfort zones. And change brings us out.
Just my ramblings as I try to expedite this comment so I can go eat. No change there. The same place I eat every lunch during Cotton ginning season. The owner of the cotton gin across the road feeds the workers and his pastor. So good luck in changing ways other than mealtime. Ha ha.
