I normally let a few answer before I add my 2 cents worth, but I think I'm gonna go ahead this time and give my picks.

Of all time - C.S. Lewis - the best thinker in my opinion.

Today I like several and read a few books of one and then go to another. Philip Yancey comes to mind...so does Max Lucado (for new Christians)...that guy that did the Joseph books is very good. I love fiction. And so my favorite Christian fiction author is Frank Peretti.

I guess to me there is no single greatest Christian author of our time. Some may say Rick Warren, who may be the most wide spread with his Purpose drivien everything in the world, but for me the "best" is really not one person. I think several have good qualities and niches.

C.S. Lewis without a doubt in my mind. in the non fiction category.

John Bunyan - I love The Pilgrim's Progress. It has the be the greatest Christian allegory of all time. that is my fiction pick

Maybe C.S. Lewis, Barth, Niebhur? (our time)

of all time, that is a hard one...
Anslem, Augustine, Aquinas, Gregory of Nyssa?

I guess you mean't authors after the New Testament?

C.S. Lewis is definitely in there. Neibuhr, too.

I really don't care for much fiction but I just discovered Anne LaMott and have enjoyed one non-fiction and one fiction by her. I guess Tolkien would have to be mentioned in fiction.

Favorite of all time is so hard...Oswald Chambers' writings are wonderful but they were sermons and he had no book until he was dead. (lol) does that count?

Alright, I give up. I can't pick just one.

I would say Lewis but he was before my time. :)

Philip Yancey is in my opinion the best contemporary author. Lucado is also good.

If I were to pick from the last century my list would include:
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
C.S. Lewis
William Barclay
Reinhold Niebuhr
John Howard Yoder

Ooh, I thought of two other contemporary authors who I would rank above Yancey and Lucado:

Stanley Hauerwas and Wil Willimon.

I knew I'd have to make another comment after I read all of yours. I had forgot Will Willimon Tony. Thanks.

Also, who can leave Tolkien for non-fiction? Thanks Lisa.

And finally, I purposely left out Paul to see if anyone used him. Good one John.

Anybody else?

To answer the second part of your question, I'll answer as Mao did when asked to assess the impact of the French Revolution "Too soon to tell."

I would say CS Lewis for his fiction writing. I'm less a fan of his non-fiction, at least as a whole, but his fiction - what vision. I still read the Chronicles of Narnia probably once a year.
