What are we to do?

This little tidbit comes from Andy Stoddard over at 'Mid Toil and Tribulation.

"You have nothing to do but to save souls; therefore spend and be spent in this work."

John Wesley

This was Wesley instructed his preachers to be about. The only job in life was to see the lost come to salvation. That makes good sense, because that's what we preachers are supposed to be about, right? One additional note. Most of Wesley's preachers were lay folks; they had jobs and families and were not in the "full time" ministry. He tells them, yes, there are things you are supposed to be about, but your job is to see souls saves.

Friends, if you are a Christian, then today, that is your most important task. Yes, we have other responsibilities and concerns, but our life's work is supposed to be about seeing the lost come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

That is a great quote. I wonder what the liberal theologians make of it? Every time I hear them talk about the church is about it is always about the poor, the environment, etc. and never about authentic evangelism. Yes, I help the poor and I care about the environment, but first things first!
