Question of the Week ??
My wife and I have almost saved enough money to buy a new TV. I have read so much stuff that my head is spinning. Some say Plasma won't last. Others say that I will have to buy a $250 bulb for an LCD TV every 2 or 3 years. Some say this brand, while others promote another brand. So I ask my more technologically sound counterparts these questions?
1. Do you recommend Plasma or LCD (not LCD projection, but LCD)?
2. Samsung seems to be everywhere now, but is it any good?
3. Do you recommend any brand or not recommend any brand?
4. To save money do you think it may be worth getting a good tv that is 720p over another not so good brand 1080p or 1080i? (if you understand this question, I know your good)
5. Should I just go back to black and white and forget the whole mess?

I know nothing about technology, but I do know about shopping! When you ecide on the tv you want, then check the "black friday" ads. Tis also the season for good deals on electronics!

Thanks both of you. I will check out the website DBMom. Interesting enough, I've not seen many Sharp TV's in my shopping come to think about it. It seems everybody's promoting Samsung now. They must be giving good rebates to the stores or something. I do agree though. I've not had problems with Sharp in the past. Thanks.
Greg,
I've got a set of rabbit ears with the correct amount and properly located aluminum foil already on the foils that I'll send to you.

you can buy my old tube tv off me, apparently i'll need to get a new one anyways!
Just think, you could go black & white and everyone would think that you were on the bleeding edge of retro chic... or maybe just plain cheap...but what do I know.
Whatever you do, good luck. I'm seriously thinking that when my current tv goes to that great big family room in the sky that I won't replace it...there's nothing worth watching anyway.
LCD LCD LCD, longer life than plasma
Samsung has a really good name behind it.
780 is fine
Think of it as a long term investment.
Stephen, I've been told that very same thing about LCD. But I've been told that the Plasma's will last about 20 years as well. And that's as long or just a little longer than my CRT now. Plus, have you ever had to purchase a new bulb for your LCD, or is that just a crock?
Alan, my wife is set on a stream line set that will take up less room. Plus, we want a wide screen and I've not yet seen that on a CRT.
Let me ask anyone else who shows up here, do you think that there's much difference in the companies. I know Sony is good...but more expensive as well. I think I will not only pay for a good tv, but also for the name. Is there a good brand out there that is not as well known and I can get cheaper?
Flat panel LCD's do not have a bulb. The only sets with a bulb are rear-projection sets.
All the manufacurers of LCD and Plasma sets are great. Your determining factor is size.
LCD's are only available up to around 30" or so. If you want larger you should go plasma.
I have a SAmsung HDTV flat-screen (big, bulky CRT, probably weighs 100 lb.s) and a Norcent LCD.
The LCD has a much better picture quality and is mounted on the wall in my kitchen. It only projects about 2" from the wall. It also retails for about $600 less than the Samsung.
