Thought of the Day !!

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Genesis 3:1-5 (ESV)

Matthew Henry, in his commentary wrote that the devil (the serpent) did three things in the Garden of Eden when he tempted Eve to disobey God. He questioned whether this was actually a sin or not.

“Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”

He denied that there would be any punishment.

“You will not surely die."

And he pointed out the benefits.

"When you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Today as Satan tempts us he does the same thing. He tries to convince us that the sinful things we do are not really all that bad, that their will be no problem with it, and that there will be benefits if we will only do, say or think whatever it is he's trying to get us to do.

Be very aware that the devil is always there stalking you, waiting for his opportunity to tempt you to sin so that he can come between you and God. He hates God so much that he'll go to any extreme to try to hurt Him. And you are his only way of getting back at God who kicked him out of Heaven.

In the love of Christ,
greg
