i still consider the tsunami part of '04 since it technically hit on dec 26th (i guess, it might have been different with the international date line)..

with that said, i'll go with the pakistan earthquake. nothing can compare with the loss of life

Katrina and Rita because the Houston area where I live is impacted by them every day.

I'll go with the Pakistan earthquake as well. There were so many lives lost.

Hi Greg...what's the difference in major surgery and minor surgery? Minor surgery is on you and major surgery is on me!!!...what a sad and tragic loss of life and living in any and all of the disasters of 2005...ways of life, ways of living, and lives were changed forever...the disasters are also a way for God to work in the midst of terrible human suffering to bring about good and he is continuing to do just that...individuals, groups, companies, churches, cities are rolling up their sleeves and giving of their time, energy, prayers and money to assist those who have lost it all, throughout the world...may we not forget the people freezing in Pakistan...may we not forget the over 250,000 who died in the Tsunami and all their families and all in Southeast Asia still recovering and rebuilding...may we not forget those effected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, those still dislocated, those living in tents, those in temporary housing, those who lost loved ones, those whose city or town was wipe-out...may we not forget the hungry, the thirsty, the homeless, the helpless, the hopeless, the forgotten, the taken for granted, the ignored in each of our little neck of the woods...lastly, may we not neglect to offer the Spirit of Christmas which is the Hope of the World, Jesus!!!...thanks for the question...have a day blessed by being an instrument of God's Love, Mercy and Grace...

lives were lost and impacted in everyway.

I think the tsunami really affected us in Europe - whereas Katrina and Rita were US things, and Pakistan affected mostly locals

My son's school friend and his family (all except the mother) died in the tsunami. The bodies of the two sisters were never recovered. The boy's was found after six months. That mother and thousands like her needs God's grace in abundance to live every day of her life.

For sure Dec 2004- Dec 2005 was a chance to extend God's love in practical and financial ways. And the need is still there.

I'm not sure of the point of your question really. A tragedy hurts those it hurts, and those who are less hurt need to be God's healing hands.

In response to see-through-faith - you said

"I'm not sure of the point of your question really. A tragedy hurts those it hurts, and those who are less hurt need to be God's healing hands."

The point to all my questions are simply to get people to think and discuss. Some are comical, while others are serious. No agendas other than fun with some and thought and discussion with the others. Thanks for your comments.

In response to gavin - I had forgotten that the tsunami was '04. But I guess the effects were still being seen well throughout '05. Thanks for keeping me honest though.

grace - I understand your point. When we live so close (or right in the middle of) the disaster, it will affect our perspective. I personally have more of a connection with Katrina being just north of the effects in MS and caring for so many displaced folks. Of course, Pakistan probably affected the most folks.

All of these disasters were both a tremendous loss and a tremendous opportunity to share the love of Christ. May we continue to share that love with all those affected by the disasters of '05 and the inevitable ones of '06.
