As Christ said, I do communion "...in remembrance of (him)." I am reminded of the terrible price paid by the Lord. His body and blood shed and spilt for me.
We (well most here) are Protestants. The crosses in our churches are empty because we serve a risen Lord. However, I sometimes think that when we take communion, we need to see a Roman Catholic crucifix. We need to see the unsanitized cross with our Lord on the cross at communion to be reminded of what our freedom actually cost. I am reminded of that price all during Holy Communion.
Our current pastor is very casual about communion, I guess I like tradition. I am also bothered by people chatting during this time. Its really disrespectful.

I am shown through the body and the blood just how much God really loves me.

I think of it as a renewal of faith.
