World Communion Sunday

This Sunday is World Communion Sunday. And even though many won't participate or even know that is what Sunday is, a great number of us all around the world will participate in Holy Communion, Eucharist, Lord's Supper etc. I looked up the word Communion and it comes from the Latin for mutual participation.

Think about this. Sunday we will mutually participate in taking Christ into our bodies (those who do partake of the Eucharist).

Some of us will be extremely liberal, some extremely conservative and some moderates.

Some will be high church, others low church.

Some will believe in the virgin birth. Some may not.

Some will be Charismatic. Some will not.

Some will be pro-life. Some will be pro-choice.

Some will believe homosexuality to be not only a sin, but a top the list of worst ones. Others will believe that this is not a sin at all.

Some will be hurting, while others are joyful.

Some will be drinking from the same cup or using the form of intinction, while others will be using shot glasses.

Some will use wine and others will use grape juice.

There will be people of different colors, nationalities, worship styles, socio-economic status, and so on. But there are at least two things we will all have in common. One is that we are all sinners in need of God's grace. And the other is that each of us who take it seriously will come because we have a desire to have Jesus. Amen.

Amen, That'l Preach!

We gather at the table, sinners all bound by God's grace in the new covenant given to us by Jesus

I hope so, because that's the gist of next week's sermon. :)
