Question of the Day ??

Which is worse for a new pastor to hear, "But we've never done it that way before" or "But this is way we've always done it"?

Which is worse for a new pastor to say, "We're changing the worship service next week" or "I don't care how my predecessor did it?"

This is kind of like Jesus...answering questions with questions.

How about...

Parishoner: Well, our last pastor did _______.

New Pastor: Well, I called that pastor last night, and they said they didn't want to do that anymore.

I think worse would be: "This is how we do it here."

To take this question seriously, however, I would say that it is better to say, "We've never done it that way before." With this response at least there may be some openness to trying something new.

Whereas the response, "This is how we've always done it," appears to be the way that it will always be done. Fear and trembling should always go with chaniging out the sacred cows.
