Blogosphere awards for 2006
2006 is now just a memory, and in the tradition of the Oscar's and the Grammy's, I bring you the 2nd annual "Bloggy's". Here's your chance to vote on your favorite blogger/blog sites for 2006.
In your comment simply number 1-10 and your answer. Please choose only one for each category. If more than one name is given for any number, the entry will be thrown out.
1) Best blog site of 2006
2) Most scholarly blog site
3) Most controversial blog site
4) Most spiritual blogger
5) Most amusing blogger
6) Most consistant blogger
7) Nicest dressed blogger
8) Blogger most likely to succeed
9) Blogger who has made the most impact on your life personally, spiritually or theologically
10) Blogger most likely to vanish and be found years later presiding as tribal king on a small island in the Pacific
* Please link to this so that we will get as many votes as possible. I will announce the winners and send out the awards in 2 or 3 weeks.
** Take very special care in answering #10. If you were around at the beginning of last year you may remember that Dean Snyder won this bloggy and no one has heard from him since. Talk about prophecy. But all kidding aside, it is my understanding that he was chastized to the point of leaving the blogosphere. I hope that if any of us are not around for next year's bloggy's it won't be because we got run off. God bless in your voting.

i'd like to nominate myself for every award. feeling narcissistic today
Shall we limit the nominations to Methoblogs?
Any doubt that John from Locusts and Honey runs away with #6, most consistent blogger? Yep, this is a vote for him in that category.
I'll actually have to think about the others.
Gav - you would get my vote. But maybe tomorrow you will feel differently and will actually submit some names for 1-10. Even if they are all you.
John - just as last year, they can be any bloggers. But bear in mind if they are unknown by others, they will have no chance at winning.
gmw - let us all know when you got a full list.
Thanks
My votes:
1. Glenn Reynolds
2. Belmont Club
3. Little Green Footballs
4. David Wayne
5. Ace of Spades
6. Glenn Reynolds
7. No clue
8. Jonah Goldberg
9. Glenn Reynolds
10. Ace of Spades
Ooo, John, I can be number 7! I think I'm pretty well dressed. Most skin is covered most of the time! And I need no assistance to do so....
=o)
Gavo, I nominate you for every position, if you will nominate me....
1) Best blog site of 2006 - Locustsandhoney
2) Most scholarly blog site - Jay Voorhees
3) Most controversial blog site - Hmm - maybe the new Methoblog
4) Most spiritual blogger - Jonathan Norman (Phaith of St. Phransus)
5) Most amusing blogger - have to go with Locusts and Honey again.
6) Most consistant blogger - L & H
7) Nicest dressed blogger - Jonathan Norman
8) Blogger most likely to succeed - Natalie of Take My Hand
9) Blogger who has made the most impact on your life personally, spiritually or theologically - Andy Bryan
10) Blogger most likely to vanish and be found years later presiding as tribal king on a small island in the Pacific - hmmm.. Rev Mommy
That would be Tribal Queen. I'm not afraid of CERTAIN gender roles.....
OK, I'll go with:
#1 - Methoblog
#2 - Gavo (No, really!)
#3 - JayV (I really like it when he gets people THAT angry)
#4 - JNorm
#5 - L&H
#6 - Beth Quick
#7 - JNorm (It's the bowtie. Gets to me everytime.)
#8 - I'l liking Natalie for this one
#9 - RevAbi
#10 - ME! Queen, that is. =o)
1) Best blog site of 2006 - Locust and Honey, excellent theological discussions, funny posts sprinkled in between. I mean, it is about as well rounded as it gets. If one were to hit the next blog button and stumble on to it, he or she could get saved, fight the theological battles of the Council of Nicea all over again, learn how to kill zombies, learn more about fine art and download classical paintings while learning the artist history, see movies of rabbits, compete in funny caption contests, read dummy onion news reports.
2) Most scholarly blog site - Bro. Greg. I love the daily Bible reads and the Questions of the Day These make one really stop and think.
3) Most controversial blog site - WesleyBlog - even though it went dormant in June, there were still enough fights to fill most blogs for two or three years.
4) Most spiritual blogger - Wayne Cook. Doesn’t post often, but I appears to me that he spends a lot of time thinking about the spiritual implications of what he writes.
5) Most amusing blogger - Locust and Honey
6) Most consistant blogger - Locust and Honey
7) Nicest dressed blogger - Jason Woolever, just look at his picture.
8) Blogger most likely to succeed - Richard Johnson. He is only 15 and I had no clue of that fact until John profiled him.
9) Blogger who has made the most impact on your life personally, spiritually or theologically - Beth Quick, Beth has really been a good read. I am an arch conservative, she is liberal, I wouldn't have read many of her views, or the books she reviews, etc., etc. without her Blog.
10) Blogger most likely to vanish and be found years later presiding as tribal king on a small island in the Pacific - Gavin after the infamous Bishop Willis XYZ incident. In fact, the Bishop is probably turning his name over the mission board right now.
OK, let's start controversy here and now....
how come AGAIN most of the nominations are male? The reason I never really do anything with you people is because most of the truly excellent women bloggers get passed by again and again.
Beth Quick is head and shoulders above all of your blogs -- extremely consistant.
I agree with Rev Mommy's list for the most part -- at least she includes the women, you sexist pigs.
Pastor Anonymous
PS - The above anonymous comment was not from me (or my mom, she swears!)
(Though I do thank anonymous for the compliment to me.)
My thanks for all the nominations.
I am going to change my vote for "Most Consistent" to DailyKos. As much as I loathe its content and rarely read it myself, no blog is as regularly and frequently updated as DailyKos.
Pastor Anonymous has a point that most of the nominations are for male bloggers (as far as we know). Beth is an excellent blogger and I very much appreciate her ability to be very opinionated and yet completely inoffensive.
But content is king in the blogosphere. I for one don't care (or can verify) the gender of the people that I read. I read what's good regardless of the gender.
I would agree with John, I usually judge by content; I obviously base it on personal relationship, as well.
But Pastor Anonymous has a point.
Anonymous - Though I agree with your statement about many great female bloggers (Beth, Rev. Mommy, Quotidian Grace, Doodlebugmom to name a few), I would have deleted your comment had there not already been several people responding to it. The comment will therefore stay.
The reason I would have deleted is not because of your valid opinion, but because of the name calling. Please keep that in mind next time, if ever you decide to post.
Your opinion is valued by me and others, but the rules of grace and the love of Christ apply here. And this goes for anyone else as well.
In the love of Christ,
greg
I wasn't going to vote, because I doubt my list of bookmarked blogs aren't what your audience reads. However, Mark Winter and his costumes have to earn my vote for best dressed.
I have a question tho. Is there a list somewhere we were supposed to choose from? I don't get the "sexist pig" comment. If its open voting...yeah I don't get it.
Don't sweat it Greg. I don't give much thought to those that won't sign a comment.
is blogger being weird today? If this posts twice, sorry, delete the double if it does
dbmom - open voting, so vote for anyone you wish.
1. Beth Quick
2. Ben Witherington
3. Wesleyblog
4. Betty Newman
5. Bro Greg
6. John the Methodist L&H
7. Rev Abi
8. Rev Mommy
9. Jonathon Norman
10. Me
1) Best blog site of 2006
Gavin @
http://www.gavoweb.com/
hit_the_back_button_to_mo/
Packed with juicy nuggets, developed sense of humor, great videos, intentional study, and creative interest
2) Most scholarly blog site:
Tyler Williams @
http://biblical-studies.ca/index.php
I know I can't understand half of what comes out on his blog, that makes it pretty scholarly in my book
3) Most controversial blog site:
Wesleyblog, any of its incarnations, with Shane writing, with the commando take-over and the revised edition since Shane is no longer using it to write...that's pretty controversial to me.
4) Most spiritual blogger
Wchaney@
http://makingdisciples.wordpress.com/
He always seems to find something that hits with where my spiritual journey is taking me, and posts about spirituality in the larger context of life, not just the inward turn we so often associate with "spiritual life"
5) Most amusing blogger:
Jonathan Norman @
http://stphransus.blogspot.com/
6) Most consistant blogger:
John @ Locusts & Honey
7) Nicest dressed blogger:
I can go with Rev. Mommy on this one. She made a good argument for such, and I see nothing but finery on her site.
8) Blogger most likely to succeed:
Natalie @ Take my Hand. Beth hit the nail on the head with this one, and watching Natalie from afar has been nothing but awe inspiring.
9) Blogger who has made the most impact on your life personally, spiritually or theologically
Hey, I gotta go with Erika @
http://endangeredspecieschurch.blogspot.com/
on this one, namely because of the ongoing young clergy conversations she has undertaken in the California-Pacific Conference, and the means by which she has roped me into this transforming event.
10) Blogger most likely to vanish and be found years later presiding as tribal queen on a small island in the Pacific
Molly @ http://holytrouble.blogspot.com/
after all she does work in the California-Pacific Annual Conference, and we do have two island nations as part of our appointment system, plus she's married to a military man, therefore likely to arrive in such remote places.
Here are my nominations (blogged at The Psaltery):
1) Best blog site of 2006: RevGalBlogPals
2) Most scholarly blog site: Better Bibles
3) Most controversial blog site: Tellville
4) Most spiritual blogger: Dr. Platypus
5) Most amusing blogger: St. Casserole
6) Most consistant blogger: Dr. Platypus (Don't let the double nomination go to your head, Dr. P.!)
7) Nicest dressed blogger: PeaceBang, who blogs at PeaceBang's Beauty Tips for Ministers (also at her main blog, PeaceBang)
8) Blogger most likely to succeed: Molly, who blogs at Adventures in Mercy
9) Blogger who has made the most impact on your life personally, spiritually or theologically: Singing Owl, who blogs at The Owl's Song
10) Blogger most likely to vanish and be found years later presiding as tribal king on a small island in the Pacific: No nomination. There are quite a few that in my weaker moments I wish WOULD disappear like that, and whose views seem to support the idea of self-importance necessary for tribal kingship, but I wouldn't presume to add to their notoriety!
Sorry, that link for RevGalBlogPals above was faulty. Please follow this one instead.
1. Methoblog
2. Jay V
3. Locust and Honey
4. Rev Mommy (the prayer thing and all)
5. Locust and Honey
6. Beth Quick
7. St. Phransus
8. Take My Hand
9. St. Casserole
10. Rev Mommy

I don't have a nominee for every category so I'll just enter the ones that apply to me.
#3 Most Controversial = Shane's Wesleyblog even though he hasn't blogged much recently, he knew how to jerk folks chains.
# 6 Most consistent = Brogreg. The Thought for the Day and Question of the Day are usually the first things i read every day.
#7 Nicest dressed = StPhransus. That dude is a funky dresser according to the pics I have seen.
#9 Tie
Greg Lee, because we worked a Walk to Emmaus together last Spring and
Steve Manskar, because I read two of his books and attended two workshops that he taught.
#10 = Shane has already disappeared so I'll vote for him.
I was going to mention a few male bloggers, but now I'm intimidated because, apparently, that
would make me a sexist pig. Over at the Locusts and Honey site, I've also learned that I am an ageist (see the comment thread at 'The Bigger the Smile').
Really, is there any reason for me to live now?
There is only one reason for you to live Mark. And that is to cast your ballot for the bloggy's.
So get off your duff and vote guy. The nation (or something just as important) is waiting on you. You CAN make a difference. So VOTE!!!!
And vote your heart dude!
Mark,
Go ahead and vote. As a sexist pig you certainly have a reason to live. Otherwise we'll turn you into barbeque.
Sure you've got a reason to live, Mark! DannyG nominated you as the best dressed blogger of 2006!
I nominated someone else only because you showed up at MY church in a jogging suit...a wet, sweaty one at that. But other than that, I'd concur that you dress pretty snazzy.
