Thought of the Day !!

Last Sunday our choir performed their Easter Cantata. The story of the Passion and Resurrection was told in song. Since today is Maundy Thursday where we remember the night that Jesus shared his last meal with his disciples before his death, I thought the words to one of those songs would be meaningful for us.

My Life, My Death, My Love

Did it seem like the night had come all too fast
or as though it would never arrive,
as Jesus sat down with His dearest friends,
just before He gave up His life?
And though agony waited for Him,
He comforted each one of them.
Like the bread, I offer My body;
like the cup, I pour out My blood.
Share this meal now and forever,
and remember,
My life, My death, My love.

O, it's more than the nails,
the spear in His side, and
the thorns that disfigured his brow.
We think of the weight of bearing our sins
and it's like He says to us now,
I expected the pain of the cross,
but you were worth all it would cost.
Like the bread, I offer My body;
like the cup, I pour out my blood.
Share this meal now and forever,
and remember,
My life, My death, My love.

As we break the bread,
we think of His flesh,
precious and yet despised.
As we pass the cup,
we weep for the blood
that somehow has saved our lives.
We long for the scene to always be clear
and pray that His words grow more dear.
Like the bread, I offer My body;
like the cup, I pour out my blood.
Share this meal now and forever,
and remember,
My life, My death, My love.
My life, My death, My love.

Let us try to wrap our minds around what Jesus was trying to say to the disciples that night. Easter is coming. But we must first go through the pain of the cross. This night was but the beginning of the pain and suffering yet to come.

In the love of Christ,
greg
