Hi Greg..."A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens with Scrooge played by Patrick Stewart...a great movie of unconditional love, family, forgiveness, change, and how the Spirit of Christmas has the power to transcend even the coldest of lives and hearts and bring them to life, full life, abundant life...further, it reminds us to live the Spirit of Christmas every day of the year...it was said of Scrooge that he was able to do this, in fact no one did it better...may I, too, learn and live as the Spirit of Christmas-filled Scrooge...and as Tiny Tim proclaimed, "God Bles Us, Every One!"...thanks for the question...have a Spirit of Christmas filled Day...
What a hard question. It seems my favorite movies vary based on where I'm at in my life at the moment.
Right now, my favorite current movie is "Napoleon Dynamite." Top 5 of all time: Lord of the Rings, Lonesome Dove, Pirates of the Caribbean, Forrest Gump, Braveheart.
ooh ooh am I too late? A River Runs Through Itis my all-time favorite movie. I don't know if it's the greatest of all time but the message of redemption, the message of family, the cinematography, the dialogue...yep...it just may BE the greatest movie of all time! :)
Thank you for all your answers. It's sad, but as I've been thinking about it, I don't know if I can answer my own question. So I will do what gregory did and give my top five...just not in any particular order.
Lord of the Rings - Return of the King
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Star Wars (Original)
Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade
And finally one that doesn't seem to fit with the others but is truly a favorite of mine. An Angel in My Pocket starring Andy Griffith. If you've never seen it, it's about a young minister's first appointment and the funniest part is when Jerry Van Dyck (his brother in law) blows up a still in the church basement.
I wish this movie would come on DVD or at least video. If it ever does, I will buy it immediately. Please inform me if you ever hear of this. I want a copy sooooo bad.

What was the Christmas gift Danny?
Return of the King Extended Version. Peter Jackson captured Tolkien's imagination and brought to life one the great stories of the 20th century.
Star Wars. The original from 1977 that is now known as episode 4.

Neither are a great movies cinematic perspective, but I love the two stories and both star Gary Cooper.
Sergent York
High Noon
Oh yeah, Keith, Seargeant York...but I would have to add Pride of the Yankees to that list. Great flicks.
Excalibur.
